Bouquets and Brickbats

A Word of Explanation: We were late mailing the paper last month and I appreciate those who wrote asking about its whereabouts. I trust by now you have received it.

We have received many requests recently for additional copies of the papers containing the articles on Promise Keepers and others just wanting back issues. By the time you read this I trust all will have received theirs. However, with this many requests it is entirely possible we have unintentionally missed some. If you have requested copies of one sort or another that you have not received please contact us again for we will gladly send them. We had depleted the extra copies of the October issue, but when setting up to print this I have gone back and printed more of that issue. Those who did not get them should have them in hand by now, I trust.

God bless you for your patience, encouragement, and prayerful and financial support. We have set new records in letters received in the last two or three months. Hopefully, I will get them in this issue, but, if not, they will be forthcoming.

LOUISIANA: Please send me your monthly publication, The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator. I appreciate you exposing the truths on groups like the Promise Keepers.

TENNESSEE: I would like to have a couple of extra copies of the series of articles you’re running on the Promise Keepers. One of mine was missing a page so I didn’t get a complete article.

If you could send me a couple of extra copies of the whole article I would certainly appreciate it. I have family members who are interested in this organization.

MICHIGAN: Wish everybody could believe your articles on The Christian and Gambling but we are all aware it is the latest craze. Detroit just approved casinos. Even some of my in-laws buy the lottery tickets every week.

You also educated me on the PKs. The Silver Dome was overflowing recently with one of their meetings. I knew nothing about them before.

FLORIDA: I have been on your home page. It looks very nice. I especially like the song that was playing.

LOUISIANA: I am a subscriber to your GP&P. I agree with most of your articles, although, not all the time. However, you have been blasting people about being involved in PKs. (I am not supporting or defending PKs, it is just an example. Just a few minutes ago I read an article on the Internet blasting people who do not use the KJV Bible and calling other translations New Age lies of the devil. I know that once you wrote an article something about other versions are OK. I use a NIV. So you call Promise Keepers hell bound and the KJV people call you hell bound. What gives. Please respond.

Georgia: I must tell you that the monthly paper you send out is the bright spot in my life. I read them from front to back, and I’ve saved them all. Thanks for all the many blessings you’ve shared.

FLORIDA: I would like to have twenty (20) copies of Dec. 1 issue of The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator. The subject PKs is like TNT. The Lord bless your efforts.

FLORIDA: I thought I gave you my son’s address so you may have sent him a sub. However, he has not yet received it. Please, if you have not already sent one begin, or make sure he gets the December issue. He is so anxious to get your article on The Promise Keepers. Thanks so much—God bless you all very much.

KENTUCKY: I had the opportunity to read one of your papers and enjoyed it. I would like to be on your mailing list. Thank you so very much and may God bless your paper.

NORTH CAROLINA: I would like to have my name added to your mailing list. I picked up a copy from our church and read the article on the Promise Keepers. It was a very informative article. I would like to receive all the articles you have written on this subject.

May God bless you and the church you pastor.

WAY UP NORTH: We do appreciate your faithfulness to the Word! I am always anxious to receive your papers and distribute them to interested persons. _______ in ________ had questions about PK, for instance, until I provided him with your papers on the subject. Brother __________ is always ready to receive them and read them. Another ________ from Arkansas is somewhat involved in PK, I fear. I have downloaded your articles and intend on sending them his way via e-mail.

VIRGINIA: Would it be possible to send me your first article concerning Promise Keepers? I pass the paper on after I read it, and a friend is interested in reading the first article (I gave him the Nov. 1, issue) so your help would be appreciated.

KENTUCKY: Thanks for all the hard work and research that went into producing the excellent articles on the PK's. We thank God for you and we thank you for all that you do in the work of the Lord Jesus. May God's richest blessings be on you and yours.

ARIZONA: What is the circulation of The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator? (We will mail just under 1900 copies per month. Ed.)

MICHIGAN: I saw a copy of your paper. It is great. Please send it to me.

OKLAHOMA: I enjoyed the article on Promise Keepers. Satan knows his time is drawing to a close an is trying to deceive the elect.

OREGON: We here at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church are writing to send an offering and a request to receive your paper. Brother and Sister ___________ are already receiving your paper, and have passed it around to the rest of the church. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to read a paper that preaches and promotes the true word of God.

As per our previous letter, we are still searching for a pastor . . . .

ALASKA: Greetings from the "Great Land." Have been thinking about you lately. Hope and pray all is well with you and the Pilgrims Hope Baptist Church. I appreciate your articles of late on the Promise Keepers movement. Like you, I am persuaded this is a new catalyst for the bringing together of the apostate church. May God give us all grace to earnestly contend for the faith once for all delivered unto the saints.

CALIFORNIA: I . . . took a look at your new Web page and it looks great. I am glad to see more of the Lord’s true churches using the Internet to proclaim the truth that was once delivered unto the saints. I am still enjoying each and every issue of The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator. Keep up the good work.

IRELAND: Greetings my Brother in the blessed name of Jesus Christ! Great to hear from you! I appreciate you sending me your new e-mail address. Was just on your web page and downloaded the four articles you have written on the PK movement. AMEN! AMEN! Glory to God! Appreciate your stand for the truth! Hicks and Dobson both are perverts and need to be exposed for what they are. These men are not Christian leaders; they are exactly what Jude wrote about men who had crept in unawares. I really appreciated your article on "Is This Hatred?" May God be pleased to give us more preachers that will stand for the truth once delivered unto the saints. The GP&P is a blessing to us. May the Lord continue to bless your ministry there at Pilgrims Hope Baptist Church.

ILLINOIS: I just visited your Website and thought I would send a short note letting you know that I enjoyed the visit. My wife and I enjoy reading The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator. We have friends and family who have attended Promise Keepers meetings and this has helped us both understand the errors and evils associated with it. Thank you.

MISSISSIPPI: I have read quite a few of your papers, The Grace Proclamator, and enjoy them very much. I think it is one of the better papers printed that I have read. Would you please put me on your mailing list?

Thanks so much for your kindness, keep up the good work.

LOUISIANA: Just wanted you to know I think your articles exposing the Promise Keepers movement and their alliances, such as James Dobson, are great. I have done some research on this movement myself and can verify that what you are writing can be documented. Of course, your research appears to be much more extensive than mine as may be seen from the content of the articles.

GERMANY: I go to your Website fairly often and I like it a lot. This way I can get your paper easier (Ed. Note: The reader is referring to the fact that as of January, 1997, I am posting The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator in its entirety on our Web Site.) I truly appreciate the stands that you are taking for the truth.

OHIO: I just learned today of your paper, The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator" from The Doctrines of Grace Bulletin". Please send subscription information with yearly cost-contribution. Thanking you in advance.

NORTHWEST TERRITORY: Received the latest G.P. & P. today and read it all after getting home from Skagway, Alaska.

I thank God for your courage and clarity in presenting the truth about the Promise Keepers movement. As one Canadian preacher wrote me, it is the Devil's "newest kid on the block" leading the Protestants back to Mother Rome.

I cannot imagine you coming across as unkind or unloving. I, on the other hand, have been told that sometimes I come across like a wounded grizzly! I do not detect any such like thing in your writing and certainly have never detected such an attitude as that when I have heard you preach either in person or on tape. "Beware when all men speak well of you", the Lord said!

Please express my appreciation to the church there for standing behind you in the publication of this much needed information. Keep up the GREAT WORK!

TENNESSEE: I felt I must tell you how greatly I appreciate your stand on promise keepers. I have asked Bro. Jack for the tapes of the broadcast and pray you will keep at this task till you have given your readers a full exposé of this movement.

IRELAND: Was just on the web and received the Jan issue of the GP&P. What a blessing. It certainly looks like you are receiving a lot of "flack" concerning the PK's. I am certain these same folks that are accusing you of being bitter and unkind would have done the same thing to Paul. Paul forcefully denounced Barjesus in Acts 13:10. John the Baptist was not afraid to call a snake a snake either (Matt 3:7). Unfortunately, many of these people do not see the terrible destruction error can cause. There was a time when a wide chasm existed between secular and sacred. Now, we see the bar room filth which used to make common decency blush is palmed off on people as Christianity. Stand fast my Bro., you stand with a myriad host of Baptist people who have dared to speak the truth. Be assured of our continual prayers for you, the paper, and the Pilgrims Hope Baptist Church.

ARKANSAS: When I first pulled up your home age, in tears I thanked God for your ministry, your work, and as a friend.

CALIFORNIA: I really like your web page, and your paper. Keep up the good work.

OHIO: I read in the recent "Doctrines of Grace Bulletin" of an article you published on the topic of effectual calling. If possible, I would like to receive your monthly paper as well. Thank you for your consideration.

California: You are bold in declaring the truth in regard to the PK movement. Soli Deo Gloria! Debtor to mercy and grace. Converted Discalced Carmelite friar & priest.

VIRGINIA: Keep up the excellent work in your paper and on your web site.

TEXAS: I would like for you to send me some copies of the November, December, and January copies of the paper. I want to give some of my friends a copy to read about the "Promise Keepers". I agree with you about the movement.

TEXAS: Please cancel my subscription to your paper. Thank you very much.

OKLAHOMA: I am still enjoying you paper very much. Keep up the good work. I think you are right concerning the PKs. I read somewhere that Coach McCartney is making millions from PKs. I appreciate the way you expose false teachers.

FLORIDA: We hope this finds you well and rejoicing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Enclosed is a check for $100.00 as a love offering to help with The Grace Proclamator and Promulgator. We truly enjoy receiving this each month.

INDIANA: I would very much enjoy receiving your paper! The Lord showed me great mercy by opening my eyes to these same truths (doctrines of grace) I had earlier rejected. I am still learning and believe I can be taught from the printed page.

FLORIDA: Please take me off your mailing list. I don’t want your Satan serving, hate mongering rag in my home.

CALIFORNIA: I must admit I was a bit more impressed with your web page when I accessed with my new web browser (Microsoft’s newest Internet browser). I heard "Amazing Grace" playing when I logged on with the newer browser. It was great. Keep up the good work and may God continue to richly bless the church there and you in your work for Him.

ILLINOIS: My husband and I have been downloading all your files and wanted to let you know what a blessing we've received from your lessons. Mom and dad receive your newsletters and now we get all your info before they do, and now dad is having us print out all your lessons for him as well.

MISSISSIPPI: Just a line to say I enjoy the paper.

THEME: THE DOCTRINES OF GRACE

AND HOLY LIVING

A QUOTABLE FROM SPURGEON

"The man who never reads will never be read; he who never quotes will never be quoted. He who will not use the thoughts of other men’s brains, proves that he has no brains of his own." C. H. Spurgeon compliments of The Historic Baptist, PO Box 741, Bloomfield, NM 87413

WHAT WILL THEY DO NEXT?

By Wayne Camp

I never cease to be amazed at the antics and gimmicks some churches will use to get a crowd. Bro. Ronnie Wolfe writes,

Churches are really "striving" for attendance these days. I heard about two weeks ago about a church that was having a lottery every Sunday. Each attendant purchases a ticket to enter the building. One ticket is marked with the pastor's initials; and whoever gets that ticket wins a specified amount of money. Their attendance has increased by 100 in only three weeks.

Then this morning I heard on WLW radio here in Cincinnati that a church opened a tattoo parlor and is giving tattoos. I do not know if they are charging for it (I suppose they are). They are using "scriptural" images. The people stay for church services, and that church's attendance has increased by 300%, and their offerings have tripled.

I thought it was bad when they were giving hamburgers and Shetland ponies away to bribe folks to come to church. At its highest frenzy the "bus ministry" was the cause of many such gimmicks. But, lotteries and tattoo parlors are a new low in the attendance building business. I wonder, if these folks are saved, how they will account for this chicanery to which a lot of secular businesses would not stoop.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

THE SURE PROMISES OF GOD

2 Peter 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption.

When he ordered our troops into Bosnia, our President promised that, regardless of the circumstances, he would bring those troops home in December, 1996. Now, the administration is talking at least another year. Whether he is right or wrong in leaving them there, his promise he would bring them home by December, and then not doing so, shows the futility of men making promises.

The word promise is found in the New Testament 43 times. Forty-one times the word has reference to the promise of God. The two other times have to do with men making promises. Acts 23:21 has to do with some Jews who were conspiring to kill Paul who sought a promise from the chief captain who was guarding him that he would bring him down to the council so they could kill him while he was being brought down. II Peter 2:19 refers to promises made by false teachers. 2 Peter 2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption."

The word promises appears 13 times in the New Testament and in every instance it refers to the promises of God. Not one time is it used in an admonition for men, women or children to make promises. It confirms that the only One who can make and assuredly keep his promises is God. Politicians are in the habit of making all kinds of promises which they never intend to keep. We may make promises with the full intention of keeping them only to find it out of the realm of possibility.

The word promised is found in the New Testament 14 times. Eleven of those refer to the promises which God promised. Three times the word is used otherwise. In Matthew 14:7 it refers a promise made by Herod which caused him to have to deliver up the head of John the Baptist on a silver charger. In Mark 14:11 and Luke 22:6 Judas promised to betray Christ for 30 pieces of silver.

While men usually are unable to keep their promises, God never fails to keep his. Never put your faith in the promises of men. Consider God and his promises for what he has promised he is able to perform. Abraham was fully persuaded that, what he [God] had promised, he was able also to perform. (Rom. 4:21).

God has infallibly promised eternal life to all who believe on his precious Son for salvation. What he has promised he is able to perform. Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began. Herein lies the difference. God cannot lie. And, One who cannot lie cannot make a promise that he cannot and does not keep. Regardless of how we try to do otherwise, we will lie and we will fail to keep our promises. I told someone this past week that I would do a certain thing on a certain day. I fully intended to do it. But, my wife’s brother died suddenly and unexpectedly and I was unable to do what I had promised. The result was a lie and a broken promise.

God knows all things. He has declared the end from the beginning and the things that are not yet done before they come to pass. He will do all his pleasure and keep all his promises (Isa. 46:9-11). That can be said of no man, not even the most godly. Look to God and his promises for what he has promised he is able to perform and he will perform.

"A ROMAN MIRACLE"

(From: Babylon Mystery Religion by Ralph Woodrow, page 125.)

A Pretty maid, a Protestant, was to a Catholic wed;

To love all Bible truths and tales, quite early she'd been bred.

It sorely grieved her husband's heart that she would not comply,

And join the Mother Church of Rome and heretics deny.

So day by day he flattered her, but still she saw no good

Would ever come from bowing down to idols made of wood.

The Mass, the host, the miracles, were made but to deceive;

And transubstantiation, too, she'd never dare believe.

He went to see his clergyman and told him his sad tale.

"My wife is an unbeliever, sir; you can perhaps prevail;

For all your Romish miracles my wife has strong aversion,

To really work a miracle may lead to her conversion."

The priest went with the gentleman - he thought to gain a prize.

He said, "I will convert her, sir, and open both her eyes."

So when they came into the house, the husband loudly cried,

"The priest has come to dine with us!" "He's welcome," she replied.

And when, at last, the meal was o'er, the priest at once began,

To teach his hostess all about the sinful state of man;

The greatness of our Savior's love, which Christian's can't deny,

To give Himself a sacrifice and for our sins to die.

"I will return tomorrow, lass, prepare some bread and wine;

The sacramental miracle will stop your soul's decline."

"I'll bake the bread," the lady said. "You may," he did reply,

"And when you've seen this miracle, convinced you'll be, say I."

The priest did come accordingly, the bread and wine did bless.

The lady asked, "Sir, is it changed?" The priest answered, "Yes,

It's changed from common bread and wine to truly flesh and blood;

Begorra, lass, this power of mine has changed it into God!"

So having blessed the bread and wine, to eat they did prepare.

The lady said unto the priest, "I warn you to take care,

For half an ounce of arsenic was mixed right in the batter,

But since you have its nature changed, it cannot really matter."

The priest was struck real dumb - he looked as pale as death.

The bread and wine fell from his hands and he did gasp for breath.

"Bring me my horse!" the priest cried, "This is a cursed home!"

The lady replied, "Begone; tis you who shares the curse of Rome."

The husband, too, he sat surprised, and not a word did say.

At length he spoke, "My dear," said he, "the priest has run away;

To gulp such mummery and tripe, I'm not for sure, quite able;

I'll go with you and we'll renounce this Roman Catholic fable."
