POPE AND CARDINAL DENY GENESIS ACCOUNT OF CREATION

By Wayne Camp

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Have you heard that the Roman Catholic Church leaders are now denying the Genesis account of the creation of man? I have before me an article from CNN Interactive WebPage. It says, "Adam and Eve may not have been human when ‘God breathed life into them,’ Cardinal John O’Connor told worshippers at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday.

O’Connor said it was a ‘scientific question’ as to whether Adam and Eve, described in the Bible as the first people on Earth, were perhaps created ‘in some other form.’ The cardinal made his comments a month after Pope John Paul II said that the theory of evolution was ‘more than just a hypothesis’." This article was posted to the Web on November 25, 1996.

This amounts to another outright denial of the plain teachings of the Word of God by a Pope and a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic church. God specifically declared, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." (Gen. 1:26). In the next verse it is recorded, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." It is obvious that when God created man and woman, he did just that—he created a man and a woman. He did not create "some other form" of life which later became man and woman. He created man and woman.

Since faith comes from hearing the word of God, one wonders what this denial of the word of God by the highest ranking official and one of the second highest ranking officials of the RCC will do to the faith of those who believe so strongly in this church.
